Benefits Representative

The International Union, UAW is seeking a staff Benefits Representative/Benefits Consultant/Analyst for an onsite position in Detroit, MI. This pivotal role provides technical and professional support and consultation in collective bargaining for all benefit plans, including health care, life, disability, ancillary, unemployment, and retirement benefits.
The ideal candidate will be able to research, analyze, design, manage, compile and evaluate data, and demonstrate an advanced understanding of healthcare cost and utilization trends, premium calculations, life and disability plan design, defined contribution, and defined benefit plans. Some knowledge and background in Medicare, Social Security, ACA exchanges, Retiree Health Reimbursement Arrangements, and VEBA plans is desired. The candidate will also possess excellent problem-solving and communication skills for conveying complex data clearly and concisely.
Job Requirements:
- Evaluate and cost collectively bargained benefits, calculate healthcare premium and premium equivalents
- Defined contribution and defined benefit plan costing, analysis, and interpretation
- Negotiations, plan design, costing, and analysis of life, disability, vision, dental, and hearing plans
- Provide reasonable cost estimates of company or union proposals dealing with changes in benefits plans
- Create and evaluate contract language related to all benefits
- Participate in ongoing contract administration, administering and implementing negotiated language
- Provide plan design consulting in plant closings
- Assist in arbitration preparations
- Ability to present information related to benefits to all audiences
- Ability to work with union representatives to develop employee benefits strategies
- Review and advise on the impact of legislative changes on benefits and plan design
- Ability to perform several projects concurrently while maintaining strict deadlines
- Travel is required and is sometimes extensive
- Additional duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in health services administration, Business Administration, Public Health, or another related field
- Four years of experience in Benefits Administration, Benefits Consulting or Benefit Representation
- Experience with collective bargaining
- Mid-level proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Some understanding of contract and labor law desired
Successful candidates will exhibit discerning judgment, exemplary people skills, and adept writing capabilities. The ideal candidate is both a team player who can collaborate with an enthusiastic staff and a self-driven individual versed at time and task management.

Salary and Benefits
This is a full-time in person position based in Detroit, Michigan. The UAW offers a competitive bi-weekly salary of $4,953.92 per year for this position along with best-in-class health, retirement, and paid time off benefits. This position is represented by the UAW Staff Council Union.
