Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA)

LIUNA
Laborers’ International Union of North America

Communications Director
LIUNA Ohio Valley Southern States Region

Based in Nashville, TN

Position Overview:
DEROC (District Eight Regional Organizing Committee), an affiliate of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), is seeking a dynamic and experienced Communications Director for the Ohio Valley Southern States (OVSS) Region. This role will develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies to amplify LIUNA's message, engage members, and build community support for the union’s initiatives across the region. The position is based in Nashville and requires some travel.

The Ideal Candidate: You're passionate about contributing to the creation of stronger communities and bettering the lives of working people. Because of this you are knowledgeable about political trends and the role workers play in the fabric of America. You love good branding, you’re excited about clever ad concepts, and you believe story telling is key to exacting the change you wish to see. It's why you've spent your career, or at least three years, dedicated to honing communications as your craft in a comms or PR or marketing role, preferably at a nonprofit, a political office, an election campaign or a labor organization.

You are fluent in the language of social media and know about all the platforms and their trends — maybe that's because you studied it in school, or do it for a living or… just spend too much time on IG/Tik Tok. You are quick witted and have been accused of thinking too far out outside the box and/or caring too much. You've always been a good writer, you know because your friends come to you to edit their essays/cover letters/proposals or help them draft a text message to someone they like. You love meeting new people and hearing their stories. You take initiative and can work on your own but you'd rather work closely with a team of respected colleagues and can take direction well. Your low-key obsession with good branding led you to learn the basics of graphic design - usually just Canva but you know your way around adobe suite well enough, too. You've never met an environment that was too fast paced for you, understand deadlines are real and you're a hard worker so of course you don't mind jumping in when needed on nights or weekends, as long as it's important.
