Communication Specialist

LAANE is seeking someone with a commitment to social justice to join our communications team.

Position Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Communications Director, the Communications Specialist will work with a team of communicators to help lead strategic communications work for LAANE as a whole and for one or more of LAANE’s campaigns. Core responsibilities include:

• Creating and curating website and social media content
• Creating materials for internal and external use by campaign teams, such as social media graphics, fliers, fact sheets, press releases, op-eds and PowerPoint presentations.
• Developing and implementing communications strategies, branding and framing for various campaigns
• Earning media through media events and by cultivating relationships with reporters
• Training spokespeople for public hearings, press conferences, and interviews

Job Qualifications:

• Cultural competency and social justice values/work experience: A strong commitment to racial and economic justice and the labor movement; cultural humility and mindfulness; knowledge of area political context is a plus, fluency in Spanish is a plus.
• Working as a leader within a team: Ability to work independently and collectively within a team, well organized, think proactively, possession of strong interpersonal communication skills, and emotional intelligence.
• Dedication & Responsibility: Willingness to work long hours and weekends, Detail-oriented, can balance multiple projects and work well under deadlines. Have a positive, can-do attitude, problem-solving skills and a desire to learn.
• Platform Experience: Experience with website and social media platforms and tools, including WordPress and Canva
• Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic communications plans, craft messages, and execute tactics

Terms of Employment:
This is a full-time, salaried position with starting salary of $68,640, free family health care, a 401(k), and generous time off, along with a range of other benefits. The position does require work on nights and weekends. We are a proud union employer, and this position is a bargaining unit position.
