The Strategic Initiatives Department oversees the Teamsters’ communications, strategic research, economic analysis, and capital strategies as well as the Teamsters History Project. Strategic Initiatives provides essential resources to Teamster affiliates to succeed in organizing, public relations and contract campaigns, expand audience reach and improve messaging and public perception of the Teamsters.

The Capital Strategies Unit in the Teamsters Strategic Initiatives Department represents the interests of the union and its’ members with the investor community, including investment and brokerage firms, industry analysts, ratings agencies, and corporate governance professionals. The Capital Strategies Unit provides corporate, financial, governance, competitive market and industry research and analysis for the Teamsters Divisions and Conferences, union leadership, staff and members on a continuing basis.

Position Description:
We are looking to hire a Capital Markets Researcher to assist the Capital Strategies team in developing and maintaining relationships with capital markets constituencies (e.g. institutional investors, industry analysts, corporate governance professionals, and pension fund trustees), as well as implementing and executing investor outreach programs on behalf of the union. Core responsibilities include conducting corporate, market and financial research from primary and secondary sources, assisting implementation of investor outreach and campaign programs, and producing research reports, summaries and presentations for internal and external audiences as appropriate.

Occasional travel is required. The position is based in Washington, DC. Candidates must be available to work in-person full time at our DC headquarters.

Applicants:
Applicants for the capital markets researcher position should have a minimum of one year of work experience conducting corporate, industry, financial and/or market research using knowledge and training in a quantitative field such as accounting, economics, finance, business administration, mathematics, natural or social sciences. Ideal candidates can utilize professional research sources such as corporate and brokerage analyst reports, corporate financial statements, SEC filings, financial models, and industry and government agency economic reports to produce research for the union. A commitment to social and economic justice and the principles and goals of the labor movement is highly desired. Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Office suite is expected.

Salary is commensurate with experience, with a salary range of $72,790.00 - $89,658.00. The IBT offers a robust benefits package including a 100% employer-paid health & welfare plan, FICA reimbursement, pension, and 401(k).

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited university highly desirable; degree in a quantitative field (such as accounting, economics, finance, business administration, mathematics, natural or social sciences) preferred but not required.
  • At least one year of work experience in a professional environment required. Previous employment in a labor union/advocacy organization, professional industry association, or in a corporate finance/securities brokerage/asset management position or role is preferred.
  • Competence in using and interpreting corporate financial statements, research reports from governmental agencies, academic institutions, trade associations or brokerage firms, and/or other economic reports highly desired.
