Position Overview:
Are you a college student passionate about activism, progressive politics, and community empowerment? OR are you an older adult trying to switch careers? The Pilipino Workers Center (PWC) invites you to apply for our Summer Canvasser Volunteer Position, a hands-on opportunity that blends activism, political organizing, and community engagement. This 7 day door knocking program will provide you with the tools and experience to build your résumé, gain invaluable organizing skills, and contribute to the future of Filipino communities in Orange County. By engaging with voters and empowering Filipino voices, you’ll be directly involved in creating lasting change for pro-immigrant candidates in the 2026 elections.
What You’ll Gain:
- Fundamentals of Political Organizing: Learn the foundations of grassroots organizing, including building relationships, mobilizing communities, and executing outreach strategies.
- Real-World Activism & Canvassing: Gain direct door-knocking experience, engaging with Filipino voters, and learning how to effectively communicate issues and encourage civic participation.
- Solidarity Tech & PDI Training: Get hands-on training with the organizing tools and data systems that are essential to grassroots efforts.
- Voter Engagement: Build your skills in engaging with voters, especially the Filipino community, and learn how to create meaningful conversations that drive political action.
- Social Events & Networking: Participate in events that will help you understand the political landscape of LA and Orange County. Build connections with other passionate activists and gain insight from experienced organizers.
- Résumé-Building Experience: This is an incredible opportunity to gain experience in activism, organizing, and nonprofit work—valuable skills that will look great on your résumé and give you the practical knowledge needed for future work in political campaigns or community-based organizations.
Goal:
Our mission is clear: Base Building and Narrative Change in Orange County. By connecting with Filipino voters and empowering them to take action, we aim to shift the political narrative and support the election of progressive, pro-immigrant candidates in 2026.
Timeline & Key Dates:
- May 1st: Deadline to apply
- Start Dates: Training will begin on May 5th
- Program Duration: The canvassing will be on Thursday and Fridays with one Saturday date till June 4th.

- Compensation: Folks who complete the program series will be given a certificate of completion, $50 gift card for Starbucks, food and drinks for volunteer days, PWC shirt, invitation to key community events to help better understand the Los Angeles political landscape
- Organizing Skills: This program will equip you with valuable organizing and communication skills that will serve you well in future nonprofit or political work.
- Networking Opportunities: Build your professional network within the activism and nonprofit sectors, opening doors to future career opportunities.
Requirements:
- Open to college students (any major, with a focus on political science, community organizing, or related fields preferred but not required) or policy minded adult wanting to gain experience
- Passion for Filipino community issues, activism, and progressive politics.
- Interest in grassroots organizing, voter outreach, and building a stronger political voice for underrepresented communities.
- Ability to work well in teams and independently, staying motivated and adaptable in different environments.
- Bilingual skills in Tagalog are a plus but not required.
