JOB DESCRIPTION: The IT Director will lead the union’s technology strategy and operations – empowering staff and members to use technology as a powerful tool for organizing. This role is responsible for managing and improving the union’s IT infrastructure, supporting users, overseeing security, and aligning technology with our broader goals. It includes both strategic planning and hands-on support and requires collaboration with teams of varying technical experience.

This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position that handles sensitive union and personnel information.

Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy:

  • Develop and implement a strategic technology plan aligned with organizational priorities, including organizational policies and procedures
  • Serve as a thought partner to leadership on how technology can support campaigns, operations, and communications

Technical Infrastructure:

  • Oversee and manage all IT systems including servers, networks, mobile devices, and cloud platforms
  • Act as security administrator for workstations, software, and data systems, in collaboration with our managed services provider (MSP)
  • Lead IT projects, from upgrades and rollouts to vendor transitions and cybersecurity improvements
  • Administer confidential data systems, including HR-related platforms

Training and Support:

  • Provide hands-on technical support to staff and members
  • Design and deliver training that will empower users to confidently use key tools
  • Translate complex technical information for non-technical audiences

Vendor and Budget Management:

  • Manage relationships with IT contractors, developers, and the MSP
  • Oversee RFP processes for vendors and consultants
  • Manage the IT budget

Organizational Participation:

  • Participate in key union-wide programs including political campaigns, actions, and member outreach (e.g., canvassing, phone banking)

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and commitment to continuous learning
  • Experience with Windows 10/11 and macOS
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, OneNote)
  • Active Directory administration experience
  • Experience developing and delivering user training
  • Experience in managing vendors or external IT contractors
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Microsoft certifications such as:
    • Microsoft Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert
    • Teams Administrator Associate
    • Relevant Azure certifications
  • Experience managing an MSP or similar vendor relationship
  • Experience implementing or supporting data security protocols
  • Familiarity with labor or community organizing environments is a plus

COMPENSATION:
Salary range is $88,166 to $119,940, depending on experience, plus full family health coverage, a defined-benefit pension and 401(k) match, generous leave including vacation, holidays, sick leave, comp time for weekend and evening work, and other benefits.
