Full-Time Bookkeeper

Based in Harrisburg, PA

 

SUMMARY:
The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, representing 800,000 union members employed in all aspects of public service throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, seeks a qualified, experienced individual to fill the position of Full Time Bookkeeper. This is a professional staff position working under the direction of the President. They will develop standards, analyze information, and report research results. This staff will support the work of the Secretary-Treasurer.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with an existing QuickBooks chart of accounts; including all basic bookkeeping procedures
  • Maintain and tag fixed assets; subsidiary accounts and general ledgers for multiple entities.
  • Balance and reconcile monthly statements and issue requested reports
  • Manage employee payroll services for multiple locations
  • Maintain historical records and multi-year filing
  • Assemble necessary financial and tax-related information to prepare for annual audits with accountant
  • Prepare financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends
  • Comply with Federal, State and Local legal requirements by filing reports relating to elections, lobbying and tax requirements, unclaimed property; and other needed actions as may be required
  • May require managing grant income and expenses
  • Attendance at a week-long biennial PA AFL-CIO Convention is required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required, or equivalent business experience preferred
  • Minimum of two years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping field
  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software and Microsoft office programs
  • Knowledge of bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing 
  • Ability to work in a high stress environment
  • References required
