About This Role
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Program Manager is responsible for leading and implementing SEIU 775’s DEI initiatives across the organization in close collaboration with the Race and Social Justice Committee (RSJC). This role plays a pivotal part in advancing SEIU 775’s commitment to becoming an anti-racist organization by developing and executing equity-focused programs, fostering inclusive practices, and supporting systemic organizational change. 

The DEI Program Manager oversees a broad range of initiatives, including internal communications, staff education, project management, data analysis, and collaborative work with Human Resources and Communications teams to ensure that equity and inclusion are embedded into the organization’s culture and operations. This position requires strategic thinking, cultural competency, and a commitment to social justice, along with the ability to navigate sensitive topics with neutrality and respect.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinates closely with the Race and Social Justice Committee (RSJC) and provide support and capacity to the work of the committee. 
  • Develop, execute and implement 775’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion work to include delivery of equity & inclusion programs and initiatives.
  • Researches, develops, recommends, and executes creative strategies to foster the organization’s equity goals and advance our path towards becoming an anti-racist organization.
  • Provide ongoing project management of multiple DEI initiatives; track and manage timelines for projects and deliverables.
  • Responsible for executing organization wide DEI communications in collaboration with RSJC, Communications team and the HR team including updating and enhancing DEI content on intranet site.
  • Assist HR Department in the development of recruitment strategies to meet SEIU 775’s DEI goals to attract employees from diverse backgrounds.
  • Collects and analyzes statistical data to evaluate 775’s employee population including tracking metrics, generating reports and assisting in the coordination and communicating the impact of equity standards and goals.
  • Conduct research and network to stay current on new DEI programs, initiatives, equity-related issues, and best practices to develop, recommend, and execute creative strategies to foster the organization’s DEI goals.
  • Engages in highly charged topics, remains neutral, and is a resource for all staff. 
  • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
  • May be required to do political work for candidates and member political education as part of job duties.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

  • Effectively work interdependently in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Human Resources or another related field preferred.  
  • At least five (5) years of DEI and or Human Resources or related experience required with at least three (3) years specializing in diversity equity and inclusion, equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, and equity programs.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job may be considered.
  • Previous experience in the labor movement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP DEI certifications

  • May be required to deal with disgruntled individuals and use conflict management skills.  
  • Frequently required to perform work under pressure of deadlines and maintain professional composure, tact, patience, and courtesy.  
  • May be required to travel and work long and irregular hours. 
  • May be required work outside of normal business hours to include weekends, evenings, holidays, etc. 

Physical Working Conditions: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, requirements include:

  • Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment or remote setting with climate control.
  • Extended periods of time may be spent sitting at a workstation using a computer and other office equipment.
  • Occasional walking on uneven surfaces or stairs may be required during site visits or in-person events.
  • May occasionally need to lift or move materials weighing up to thirty (30) pounds.
  • Frequent verbal and written communication is required, including virtual meetings and public speaking.
  • Must be able to handle emotionally charged or sensitive conversations with professionalism and composure.

Compensation:
Providing current or previous salary information is optional and will not be factored into hiring decisions. Prospective Employees covered by the CBA can request a copy of the wage scale, the CBA, and any current relevant MOUs upon application to the position.

This position is full-time, exempt. This position is not included in the Bargaining Unit. Pay ranges from $99,169 – $123,848 per year. Benefits include vacation, holiday, and sick leave benefits, fully employer paid health, dental, vision, and life insurance, defined benefit pension plan, and optional 401(k), WFH credit, and more.
