Production Assistant
Based in Kent, WA (Seattle area)
SEIU Healthcare 1199NW — a progressive, social and racial justice-committed healthcare union in Washington state and Montana made up of more than 37,000 healthcare workers — is looking for a Production Assistant based out of its Kent, WA office. This position reports to the Communications Director.
Duties and Responsibilities
PRODUCTION
- Operate print production systems (RICOH C5310 and large format Canon TX-4100) and produce printed bulletins, stickers, flyers, posters, booklets, banners, and other assets based on files developed by the graphic designers.
- Monitor, track, and manage production workflow using existing project management system to ensure deadlines are met and production processes run smoothly. Communicate with and respond to inquiries from field teams regarding production timelines and deadlines.
- Participate in internal proofing process to ensure content accuracy. Perform simple color/art/text adjustments and color corrections as needed. Track and archive final files using OneDrive. Manage design library and ready-to-print design assets in support of field actions.
- Monitor and restock printing supplies and maintain a safe and clean Production room. Track production expenses and collect receipts for finance and accounting.
- Establish and manage vendor relationships with production suppliers and outside printers.
- Perform routine maintenance on production equipment and coordinate with vendors for servicing. Stay current on equipment and production technology best practices.
ADMINISTRATIVE
- Prepare, format and index electronic documents — including PDFs, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files — for use on the union’s member app, website, and digital communications platforms. Ensure documents are accessible, clean, and print-ready.
- Support the Union Store by processing basic shipping/receiving/inventory transactions. Help maintain inventory of branded merchandise and assist with warehouse upkeep and organization.
- Provide front desk coverage including receiving packages, greeting and directing guests, and ensuring visitors are connected to the appropriate staff. Coordinate with administrative staff to ensure smooth office coverage.
- Coordinate with administrative staff to complete mailing requests, including printing, packaging, and shipping materials for field actions, membership outreach, and organizational priorities.
- Research screen print press operations and make recommendations with the goal of establishing t-shirt pressing capabilities internally.
- Set up and assist in operating photo booth equipment at union events, including cameras, printers, and props.
- Perform basic graphic design backup duties and other administrative tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience operating specialty printers and production equipment
- Experience working in print and setting up press-ready PDFs
- Experience managing production and administrative projects and their components (quality, scope, timeline) from start to finish
- Experience performing administrative duties in an office setting
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365 programs (Word, Excel, SharePoint, OneDrive)
- Familiarity with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat
- A commitment to the social justice mission, vision, and values of SEIU Healthcare 1199NW
- Previous work experience in the social justice and progressive community preferred

- Detail-oriented and can self-manage the moving parts of a fast-paced production workflow
- Effective at managing shifting priorities and meeting tight deadlines

- Strong collaborator who actively shares knowledge and communicates effectively at all levels, both internally and externally
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to functionalities within the press printing process
Experience Requirements (Minimum):
Four years of print production, print design, or administrative project management experience.
Physical Requirements:
Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
The position requires five days a week of in-person work from the Kent office.
Compensation:
Competitive salary scales are set by the SEIU Healthcare 1199NW staff union collective bargaining agreement and range from $66,138.54 to $89,964.84 (Grade II) annually with starting rate dependent on experience. This is an hourly, full-time position. Benefits include fully paid employer healthcare, defined benefit pension and 401k, and vacation and sick leave.
