NEW Houston seeks a Programs and Campaigns Manager to help win current and future NEW Houston campaigns and projects.

Job Summary
The Program and Campaigns Manager will take the lead on the implementation of the project and campaign work of New Economy for Working Houston. They will work closely with the Executive Director to set organizational strategies, evaluate capacity and priority projects and campaigns, grow organizational capacity, and manage the day-to-day work of campaigns and projects. The Program and Campaigns Manager will report to the Executive Director and supervise organizers or other program staff to execute our campaign work. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Campaign & Project Planning: You will work closely with the Executive Director and coalition partners to develop and execute strategic campaign and project plans that build power for working people. This will require you to develop relationships with unions, labor councils, worker centers, and community organizations. You will identify potential campaigns rooted in shared interests and organizational contexts, and build campaign steering committees around shared campaign plans. You will ensure that all events and meetings for campaigns and projects have a clearly defined agenda, clear roles, and clear next steps. You will hold follow-up conversations and utilize organizing best practices to ensure a high level of engagement from campaign and project partners. This will include administrative and logistical support for coalition tables and campaign activities. Training development for campaign staff, member organizations, and the general public using adult education models like the popular education spiral will be a frequent part of project and campaign work. 
  • Organizational Role & Responsibilities: You will be a part of a small and growing team building the organizational capacity of NEW Houston. You will report to and regularly collaborate with the Executive Director on program planning, campaign strategies, and prioritization. You will regularly collaborate with research staff to inform them of campaign needs, collaborate on research-informed strategy, and plan data collection processes. You will occasionally take part in the hiring and supervision of organizers and other project related staff. This role also works closely with the communications team to develop internal and external communications for campaigns and the organization. 
  • Administrative and other tasks: This role requires you to be detail oriented, take effective meeting notes, keep documents and files well organized, and engage with team meetings and debriefs. You will be assisting with grant applications and reports. As NEW Houston is growing other tasks might be assigned on an as needed basis. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in issue-based organizing, campaign management, or public policy work.
  • 2-3 years experience working on organizing and policy campaigns, within the labor movement and/or or labor/community coalitions.
  • A strong and demonstrable commitment to building an economy and democracy in which working people, BIPOC folks, and gender-oppressed people have more power.
  • Expertise in Google Suite and ability to effectively work with spreadsheets to effectively organize and utilize campaign data. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear campaign plans, compelling narratives, and messaging.
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate to, oversee, and collaborate with staff.
  • Demonstrated training and meeting facilitation experience. 
  • Experience with curriculum development and the popular education model. 
  • Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
  • Strong campaign planning skills including goal & outcomes setting, creating a division of labor, setting metrics for success, and timelining.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities simultaneously, with meticulous organization and an eye for detail. 
  • Tendency to thrive in a fast-paced campaign-driven environment, who will enjoy a dynamic and complex startup organization, and can navigate a distributed leadership model with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to independently drive projects forward.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and includes evenings, weekends, and occasional travel. 
  • Valid Texas driver’s license and reliable vehicle

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to speak languages other than English
  • Experience with CRM and advocacy tools such as Action Network, Action Builder, or similar platforms.

Compensation: The salary range is $70,000 – $80,000 per year based on experience. NEW Houston offers a competitive benefits package including healthcare and generous time-off policies.
