Colorado Independent Drivers United – Driver Support Organization (CIDU-DSO) is a worker organization, affiliated with CWA Local 7777, representing gig workers in Colorado, primarily Uber and Lyft drivers. For years, app-based workers have had their rights and their input into their working lives restricted. Finally, after years of struggle we were successful in passing legislation that provides education, transparency and deactivation protections for rideshare drivers.
People who drive for Uber, Lyft, and other gig companies come from all over the world, and CIDU supports drivers in dozens of languages. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; we are particularly looking for strong applicants who are comfortable speaking English, Spanish, Arabic, Amharic, Nepali/Nepalese, and Swahili/Kiswahili.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The Communications Specialist will work directly with the Executive Director as well as other senior department heads to strategize, develop, and produce communications on all media channels:
Communication Plans:
- Working with the Executive Director to develop communication plans that support CIDU’s goals and objectives; expanding CIDU communications both internally and externally.
Member Engagement:
- Responsible for developing all messaging both content and format for member engagement, i.e. communications, leaflets, flier, website, newsletters, blogs, email messages, text messages, etc.
- Generate content and maintain CIDU websites.
- Manage all content and engagement on CIDU social media outlets, i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and other outlets as needed.
- Establish and build relationships with key member leaders to use to develop communications.
- Lead communication/digital engagement to amplify CIDU’s work and campaigns through aggressive communications outreach, including print, and digital media, and online engagement through social media.
Media Work:
- Draft and write press releases, talking points, op-eds, media advisories, and newsletters.
- Plan and strategically organize press conferences.
- Oversee distribution of targeted e-blasts and communications.
- Monitor press coverage about CIDU, its members and issues impacting rideshare.
- Actively pitch stories to reports to expand press coverage of CIDU and its work in collaboration with the Executive Director and/or designee.
- Establish relationships with key reporters and producers.
Communication Work with Policy and Politics:
- Promote CIDU events and campaigns.
- Draft, edit, and produce communications that support CIDU’s policy and political strategy under the direction of the Executive Team.
- Participate in policy and education meetings for the purposes of developing and drafting necessary communications.
Data Management and Analytics:
- Experience in utilizing data to produce analytics regarding communication tools in real time.
- Integrating communication data with CIDU’s main data management and analytic programs.
Essential Qualifications and Experiences
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, political science, or other relavant experience required.
- A successful candidate will be an excellent writer, have a strong attention to detail, thrive at multitasking.
- A successful candidate will use creative and effective communication tools and formatting to deliver communications.
- Highly creative with experience in identifying target audiences and devising digital campaigns that engage, inform and motivate.
- Proven experience placing media stories, and increasing followers and engagement in social media platforms.
- Design software knowledge and experience.
- Creative in using new media to communicate CIDU’s priorities, including experience producing infographics.
- Self starter who is able to self manage with input from other staff.
- Excellent project management skills, demonstrated experience meeting tight deadlines and providing fast turn-around of quality products and working in a high pressure environment.
- Strong organizational skills
- Proficient in MS Office
- Ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects.
- Ability to identify and seeking solutions proactively.
- Strong analytical skills and data-driven thinking.
- Ability to form and maintain interpersonal relationships in a working environment.
- A great team player who is comfortable working in a fast paced environment.

CIDU - DSO offers a competitive salary starting at $65,000 – $75,000 based off of experience and qualifications and excellent benefits including family medical, dental and vision, paid time off, retirement, etc.
