Colorado Independent Drivers United – Driver Support Organization (CIDU-DSO) is a worker organization, affiliated with CWA Local 7777, representing gig workers in Colorado, primarily Uber and Lyft drivers. For years, app-based workers have had their rights and their input into their working lives restricted. Finally, after years of struggle we were successful in passing legislation which provides education, transparency and deactivation protections for rideshare drivers. 

CIDU is seeking a full-time Staff Attorney who can provide a full range of support to the organization and the workers that CIDU serves. This position will require: 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Advocate on behalf of workers in deactivation panel and arbitration proceedings and work with our Legal Director to provide counsel on issues involving labor and employment law, organizing and other legal issues affecting the driver community.
  • Responsible for maintaining own case load including conducting investigations, legal research and strategy, drafting legal memos, case presentation and enforcement proceedings. 
  • Travel, as well as willingness to work long and irregular hours. 
  • Along with all employees, help maintain a positive, respectful, welcoming, professional and culturally competent work environment. 
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Law school graduate and admitted to, or willing to apply for admission to the Colorado Bar.
  • Experience with labor or employment law, previous trial experience and previous experience working with non-profits is a plus.
  • Must have ability to investigate and litigate cases independently and collaboratively; ability to timely handle multiple cases at once and manage stressful situations.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing and to negotiate with third parties on behalf of drivers. 
  • Experience representing or working with immigrants, low-wage and vulnerable populations. 
  • Strong record of cultural competence and cross-cultural communication skills.

CIDU - DSO offers a competitive salary starting at $85,000 – $95,000 based off of experience and qualifications and excellent benefits including family medical, dental and vision, paid time off, retirement, etc.
