Bargaining Organizing Team (BOT) Coordinator
Based in Portland or Salem, OR
General Description:
The Bargaining Organizing Team (BOT) Coordinator is a key driver of the Union’s program. This role provides support, oversight, and coordination for a team of Bargaining Strategists, ensuring they and negotiating committees are properly trained and supported, contract timelines are effectively monitored, and internal and external stakeholders and resources are engaged strategically to help workers win the best possible contracts.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Coordinate activities of Bargaining Organizer Team (BOT) Organizers and Strategists, ensuring bargaining assignments and priorities are clearly communicated and supported by field Directors and Coordinators.
- Identify training and skill development needs for BOT Strategists; deliver or coordinate trainings to ensure expertise is fully developed and effectively applied.
- Monitor the progress and status of contract negotiations, ensuring deadlines are met, campaign plans are developed and followed, and leadership is kept aware of significant developments.
- Help lead and implement the development of the Union’s overall bargaining program, ensuring strategic goals and priorities are achieved.
- Collaborate with and support divisional/program directors in the development and execution of strategic campaigns.
- Support BOT team in preparing for and negotiating collective bargaining agreements and; ratification of contracts including action preparation and recruitment when needed.
- Assist BOT team members to appropriately coordinate with other departments within the Union, including Research, Data, Communications, Legal, Contract Enforcement, and Field.
- Provide guidance to BOT staff to ensure adherence to organizational policies and procedures.
- Draft proposals, memorandums of understanding/letters of agreement, integrated collective bargaining agreements, member communications, and serve as chief spokesperson for union negotiating committees. Oversee the work of others who perform these functions as needed.
- Assist Contract Enforcement and legal teams as needed around contract interpretation cases.
- Participate in political action: door-to-door canvassing, phone banks, issue campaigns, candidate campaigns, informing the membership on the issues and candidates, targeting candidates, targeting precincts for candidate races, voter registration, questionnaires and surveys on candidates and issues; get-out-the-vote drives.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience leading contract negotiations and bargaining committees, with a demonstrated record of strategic campaigning that uses bargaining to improve standards for workers.
- Demonstrated commitment to building a strong, multiracial, multilingual, multigenerational labor movement that lifts standards for the working class.
- Minimum three years’ experience leading and/or supervising organizing staff.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to coordinate initiatives, track progress, and ensure priorities are met.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations.
- Ability and stamina to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle for work use.
Working Environment:

Office and field work involving travel to all areas of the state - sometimes with overnight stays - in a variety of environmental conditions. The workweek is Monday through Friday plus weekend work when specifically assigned. The workday may begin before and extend beyond normal office hours depending on the demands of the assignment.
Pay and Benefits:
Comprehensive fully paid health, dental and vision benefits for employee and eligible dependents, domestic partner benefits, generous holiday and vacation policies and a 15% employer-paid defined contribution 401K. Compensation range is based on experience $98,652 – $129,912 annually.
