Director of Data and Technology

POSITION TITLE: Director of Data and Technology
DATE: October 22, 2025
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Executive Director
LOCATION: Prefer candidates based in Minnesota

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of MNA’s Executive Director, the Director of Data, Technology, and Membership will work collaboratively with other Directors and MNA staff to drive, develop, and implement a strategic vision for MNA’s Data and Technology systems.  This person will create and maintain a culture of data literacy among staff, and subsequently, the membership. They will lead operational support functions, including workflow management and data exchange between departments and affiliate organizations, ensuring secure and accurate documentation. They will manage data and IT vendor relationships while overseeing the Membership Department, Data Engineer, and IT Staff. 

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
Data and Technology Management

  1. Work with management and staff to define and support the member mobilization program and develop member engagement technology
  2. Review, update, develop, and implement data and technology policies and procedures, and standards across the organization
  3. Responsible for managing the organization, storage, extraction, and data analysis while ensuring security and confidentiality standards are met
  4. Effectively manage data quality, compliance, and the security of data and technology across all reporting processes
  5. Analyze existing tools and reports and identify new solutions to support data tracking and sharing across departments
  6. Manage, mentor, and develop direct reports, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their goals 
  7. Ensure staff receive technical assistance and help with database-related issues
  8. Maintain organizational IT systems and perform periodic assessments to identify integration gaps, reduce redundancies, and improve operational efficiencies
  9. Manage relationships with external data and IT vendors to ensure delivery of high-quality and cost-effective solutions 
  10. Monitor project executions for time, quality, and budget constraints 
  11. Facilitate communication and reporting with organizational leadership regarding contract, legislative, electoral, and organizing campaigns
  12. Facilitate creation and ensure maintenance of systems and procedures for dispensing, tracking, and auditing MNA’s phones, desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and audio-visual tools
  13. Remain current on the development of technological trends through trade conferences and other training opportunities, and provide updates to the management team 

Dues Collection, Processing, and Auditing

  1. Manage the Membership Department
  2. Responsible for managing the timely recording and posting of membership dues
  3. Identifies and solves complex membership dues collection processes quickly and effectively
  4. Responsible for the delinquency process of uncollected membership dues
  5. Conduct regular membership audits to ensure the posting and collection of dues
  6. Serve as liaison to the Board of Directors for security of membership data and analysis
  7. Handle inquiries and requests related to membership that include confidential information or require managerial approval, such as Beck Objections, etc.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field
  2. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a data and IT role
  3. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a managerial role
  4. Excellent written and oral communication skills
  5. Strong project management skills, including defining the target state, project milestones, and identifying and managing program risks and blockers
  6. Required proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite applications 
  7. Strong working knowledge of networking, office automation, and cloud systems
  8. In-depth experience in all phases of LAN/WAN/desktop security and telecommunications
  9. Working knowledge of political and communications tools such as the NGP VAN, EveryAction, or similar programs that allow for electoral targeting and volunteer information collection
  10. Ability to manage review and audit data integrations
  11. Experience with data visualization tools like Google’s Looker Studio
  12. Familiarity with database management and creating data pipelines using various sources
  13. Ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  14. Understanding of the Union environment and how it aligns the technology infrastructure and strategy
  15. Experience with union revenue cycle and the dues collection process.

Salary and Benefits 
A salary range of $112,407 – $159,991, dependent on experience, with generous benefits including defined benefit pension, 401K matching, 100% employer-paid single and family health insurance coverage, 25 vacation days, 12 sick, and 3 personal days, along with 12 paid holidays annually.
