Organizer

The Alaska Nurses Association seeks an Organizer motivated to help nurses and other healthcare professionals organize to take collective action to advance economic justice, improve working conditions, and protect quality healthcare in Alaska.
Join Alaska healthcare workers as we organize new unions, demand better staffing and competitive pay in union contracts, and fight for quality patient care.
This organizer will be responsible for a variety of aspects of internal and external organizing campaigns, including conducting challenging conversations, building relationships with workers, developing leaders and activists, identifying common issues, and reaching measurable campaign goals. Union organizing experience preferred.
Qualifications:
- Dedicated to social and economic justice.
- Knowledge of union organizing practices and principles.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats.
- Willingness to work long and irregular hours.
- Ability to work effectively independently and within a team.
- Valid driver’s license and automobile in good working order.
- Ability to relate to and work with diverse groups of people, as well as an understanding of the daily challenges faced by workers employed in healthcare.
Ideal candidates will have:
- Organizing experience in labor, community, student, or environmental activism.
- Basic knowledge of union contracts and the process to organize new unions.
Summary of duties and responsibilities:
- Hold one-on-one conversations with healthcare workers to organize and mobilize people to take actions necessary to achieve our shared goals.
- Plan, drive turnout, and help to lead events, meetings, actions and other gatherings of union members or potential members.
- Visit worksites, make phone calls, conduct virtual meetings, and work in an office setting.
- Utilize online tools to support campaigns and communication.
- Driving, travel, remote assignments and extended work hours are sometimes required.
Applicants must be based in or near Anchorage, Alaska or be willing to relocate.
Salary range is competitive, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
