Digital Organizer and Communications Specialist

Based in Pennsylvania

 

Role: This role is for someone who can creatively deploy various digital and communications tools and tactics to both amplify health care worker voices and to engage workers and community about important issues, the role of the union in a way that ultimately helps unite more healthcare workers in a union. 

Duties and Responsibilities: The Digital Organizing and Communication Specialist will perform a wide range of duties, collaborating with healthcare workers, union leadership, organizers and other stakeholders to develop and implement effective digital organizing strategies and overall communications strategies that support workplace organizing.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Creating and implementing strategic digital communications plans that help achieve organizing and campaign goals; responding to real-time needs and shifting priorities 
  • Producing a combination of digital and print materials for organizing and contract campaigns including videos, flyers, mailers, signs, capture forms, surveys, reports, brochures, web pages, and more
  • Managing and producing content for multiple social media and online channels
  • Coordinating with colleagues to craft strategic messaging and campaign messages that will resonate with various audiences
  • Planning, coordinating, and providing on the ground support for media events including press/media coordination, A/V, live-streaming, as well as other photo and video needs.
  • Supporting, training, and preparing workers to be effective spokespersons in videos, public events, online and anywhere else they may speak out
  • Making important judgements about how to deploy various digital tools and tactics based on situational campaign needs; balances virality and visibility with achieving meaningful outcomes
  • Builds and manages relationships with contractors and vendors who can support our communications needs including photographers, videographers, designers, editors, content creators, A/V, and printers
  • Performs other duties as required to support the work of the union.

Qualifications:

  • A passion for social and economic justice and desire to build power for working people. 
  • Understands how to utilize basic digital tools and tactics — including but not limited to email, peer-to-peer texting, social media, video and content production, websites, and paid advertising
  • Strong writing and messaging skills and strong attention to detail
  • Willingness to ask questions and communicate directly in order to move projects forward in a moving campaign environment.
  • Desire to learn new and unfamiliar skills; ability to self-teach
  • Ability to take creative direction, juggle multiple simultaneous projects and effectively manage competing priorities

Job Requirements:

  • Work is generally performed from home, however on the ground attendance at union actions and events across Pennsylvania is needed for this role. 
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle as needed for travel. Travel is reimbursed under IRS mileage reimbursement rate. 
  • Will require flexible and extended hours based on campaign needs. 
  • All union staff participate in occasional union-wide organizing campaigns and political advocacy work

Compensation:

  • Experienced based salary scale starting at $68,900 to $94,900 based on relevant years of experience. 
  • Competitive benefits including defined benefit pension, optional 401K type plan, and fully employer paid health insurance.
