EBRRD seeks a dedicated, self-motivated individual to help implement an innovative, member-focused campaign aimed at increasing union membership and building power among highly skilled construction trades in the Greater Bay Area and Central Valley. The Executive Director will work closely with union staff committed to this campaign.

Over 40,000 members are in the participating unions which include Sprinkler Fitters Locals 669 and 483, SMART Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 104, affiliates of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), affiliates of the United Association (UA) of Plumbers and Pipefitters, and the District Council of the Ironworkers.

POSITION SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the EBRRD Board, the Executive Director will serve as a key resource supporting various local teams in developing strategies to increase union density within their targeted geographic areas.

Responsibilities include:

  • Applying strategies to secure agreements with developers to use high-road construction contractors on their projects.
  • Collaborating with research and legal teams to identify projects, developers, and policy opportunities for local efforts.
  • Coordinating with legal counsel to negotiate agreements with developers that promote the use of a skilled construction labor workforce.
  • Partnering with local Building Trades Councils to pass policies that increase member participation opportunities in various projects.
  • Building partnerships with community-based, advocacy, and other organizations to create pathways for disadvantaged communities into union construction careers.
  • Coordinating local union political efforts, including endorsements, member mobilizations, and more.
  • Providing logistical support for a wide variety of events, including scheduling, managing attendance, drafting talking points, and coordinating event details.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years of experience showing dedication to worker organizing, economic justice, and social justice movements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities, including knowledge using social media.
  • Strong coalition-building and facilitation skills across diverse organizations and communities.
  • Experience working in diverse cultural settings.
  • Knowledge of political campaigns during election cycle and/or helping to pass public policy
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle are required. The role involves travel across the region.
  • Proficiency in fundamental qualitative research skills, such as internet/media searches 
  • Proficiency in essential programs such as Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and Sheets.
  • Willing to work occasionally on evenings and weekends.

COMPENSATION
This is a full-time, exempt, at-will position. The salary range is $130,000 – $175,000 per year, commensurate with experience. The position offers excellent benefits, including family health coverage, a pension plan, and more.
