Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO
Legislative Representative / PAC Administrator
Based in Washington, DC
The Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD) seeks a Legislative Representative/PAC Administrator to join our team. This is a mid-level role. TTD consists of 40 affiliated unions who together represent workers in all modes and areas of transportation. TTD focuses its advocacy efforts on federal funding, authorization, and other policy proposals that affect the transportation workers represented by our member unions.
Legislative Representative portion (estimated 60% of role)
Reporting to the Senior Legislative Advisor and TTD’s elected officers, the Legislative Representative will take on a portion of TTD’s legislative portfolio such as appropriations, school transportation, and/or other modal-specific issues. The candidate should be able to build and maintain relationships with Hill and Committee staff; review and analyze bills and other policy proposals; draft hearing testimony, statements for the record, letters to Members of Congress, and other written advocacy materials; and navigate dynamics among varying members of our federation to build consensus for supporting specific legislative solutions. They will be required to devise and implement successful legislative strategies and collaboratively work with our unions to advance our agenda. The candidate is also required to work in partnership with the rest of the legislative team.
PAC Administrator portion (estimated 40% of role)
Reporting to the Senior Legislative Advisor and TTD’s elected officers, the PAC Administrator should be able to manage day-to-day activities related to the TTD PAC including coordinating fundraisers for political candidates, maintenance of PAC records, monitoring political and election activities on issues of interest to TTD and its affiliated unions, processing contributions, and representing the interests of TTD and its affiliated unions before members of Congress at political events.
Criteria:
The individual should have at least 5 years of prior relevant policy work with preference given to candidates with transportation policy experience and experience on Capitol Hill. Experience within the PAC/fundraising world, Executive Branch, the labor movement, and/or non-profit backgrounds is also beneficial.
TTD firmly believes that the anti-worker policies we fight back against disproportionately hurt the most marginalized members of our society, including people of color, people from working-class backgrounds, women, and LGBTQ+ people. Advocating for these communities is centered in the work we do, and we therefore strongly encourage people with these identities or who are members of other marginalized communities to apply.
TTD offers excellent benefits, including a generous healthcare package, pension, transit allowance, remote work days, and vacation/paid holidays. The starting salary range for this position is $90,000. Salary is flexible commensurate with experience.
