(Railcar Mechanic/Welding Instructor)

Job Title: Part-time Field Educational Representative (Railcar Mechanic/Welding Instructor)
Location: 3860 Lindell Blvd. St. Louis, MO 63108
Pay: $30 per hour

Job Description:
TCU/IAM union youth training program in St. Paul, MN is seeking a dedicated and experienced Rail Mechanical Service Worker (Welder/Carman) who also feels confident and comfortable in a classroom environment. TCU/IAM partners with the Hubert H. Humphrey Job Corps Program to train and place young adults in transportation industry careers.

Part-time FER Duties:

  • Work with full-time FERs to instruct a classroom of 20-25 students between the ages of 18-24 in the transportation portion of the curriculum, as well as the rail mechanical (Carman/Welding) classes.
  • Demonstrate basic welding skills for our Rail Car Repairer/Carman Welding students
  • Follow all safety and OSHA regulations and protocols
  • Supervise multiple students on a daily basis
  • Monitor and document student progress
  • Maintain an orderly, safe, and productive shop/classroom
  • Assist students in the job search process (tailoring resumes, employability skills and interviewing techniques)

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • Experience in the transportation industry - railroad experience preferred
  • Proficient welding experience as a journeyman, apprentice, carman, or related field
  • Experience as a teacher, trainer, supervisor, or instructor
  • High School Diploma – Mandatory
  • College Degree – Preferred or applicable experience accepted
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
