The St. Vrain Valley Education Association (SVVEA) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of UniServ Director. This position is located in Longmont, Colorado.

About Us:
St. Vrain Valley Education Association (SVVEA) is an affiliate of the Colorado Education Association (CEA) and the National Education Association (NEA) Together, the SVVEA–CEA–NEA form a highly democratic organization governed by its members. We operate under the belief that we are stronger together, and that we are most powerful when our collective voices, knowledge, and resources are brought together. With approximately 1,500 licensed educators, we are the union in the St. Vrain Valley School District. SVVEA has a voice in district decision-making. With our Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), that is negotiated each year, we are able to improve the lives of our members, increase student success and community wellbeing. This position would also support educational support professional members (ESPs).
Our decision-making structure is designed to ensure strong representation, with members electing their colleagues to speak and act on their behalf in all Association matters. Within SVVEA, members’ voices are heard through two elected representative bodies: The Board of Directors (BoD) and Association Representatives (ARs).
The office is centrally located in Longmont and is staffed with one Office Manager in addition to the UniServ Director. Both are responsible to the SVVEA BoD. The office also houses the full-time release President and half-time release Vice President of the SVVEA. The UniServ Director’s position involves regular travel to meet with local leaders and members along with some evening and occasional weekend availability, most heavily during election cycles and throughout negotiations. The UniServ Director is expected to attend monthly Executive Board meetings, monthly Association Representative Council meetings, and Unit Council meetings, which occur during the late afternoon/early evening hours. Staff in SVVEA are invited to attend statewide meetings, conferences, actions, and events hosted by the Colorado Education Association and other locals.
UniServ Director Duties & Responsibilities:
- Consistent collaboration with SVVEA leadership
- Working with SVVEA leadership and members to develop and execute a plan to recruit new members using a variety of tactics and strategies
- Accompany the local president to meetings with district departments and leadership
- Leader identification, skill development for emerging leaders and membership recruitment
- Working with members to identify key workplace issues
- Prepping member leaders to speak with press, elected officials, and partner organizations
- Leading members to take direct action to win on the issues that matter to our members most
- Training facilitation
- Provide sound advice to governance and then commit to governance’s chosen path
- Supporting local strategic planning
- Supporting local bargaining campaigns
- Supporting local election planning, candidate recruitment, campaign and GOTV member engagement
- Supporting and advocating for members in disciplinary meetings
- Consult, advise, and assist members with employee rights guaranteed by the CBA (including writing grievances and teacher evaluation appeals) and legal assistance as necessary
- Performing other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the public education system and the issues facing public educators today
- Minimum 2 years experience as a base building organizer; worker organizing experience preferred
- Familiarity with developing, launching, and executing new campaigns
- Experience with social media platforms
- Competency with or willingness to learn online design platforms like Canva, and other digital platforms like VAN, Action Network, Hustle, and Action Builder
- Demonstrated experience in member leadership development
- Strong facilitation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
- Intrinsic willingness to be challenged and learn new skills
- Characteristics including initiative, drive, flexibility and engagement
- Ability to balance multiple projects at once and set priorities based on long-term strategy and short-term goals
- Willingness to experiment with a variety of member recruitment strategies
- Ability to frame issues and fights as well as articulate organizational values, strategy, and priorities to diverse audiences
- Solid commitment to the principles of social and economic justice and strong union values
- An understanding of the labor movement
- Flexible schedule and ability to work some nights; weekends as necessary
- Ability to drive and access to a reliable vehicle
Compensation & Benefits:
Salary range for this position is $72,100 – $121,812 with paid time off; health benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance; monthly auto stipend; cell phone allowance; retirement contribution.
