MPO Program Manager

Based out of Detroit, MI

 

SEIU Michigan is an organization representing over 66,000 workers across the state of Michigan and charged with building power for them and their families in their workplaces and in their communities. SEIU Michigan is looking to fill the Program Manager role, responsible for driving the Member Political Organizer (MPO) program for SEIU Michigan ahead of the 2026 mid-term elections grounded in developing the participating member leaders and winning elections to achieve a pro-worker agenda. This role requires key emphasis on facilitating member leader development and education, and member organizing for electoral purposes. The person selected will work under the direction of and report to the SEIU Michigan Executive Director from May 2026 until November 2026. 

Electoral Support and Logistics

  • Create a welcoming member experience during the electoral efforts of the union for 2026.
  • Prioritize a member-first experience in cross-organizing spaces across the Michigan electoral ecosystem
  • Support the member education and development throughout the electoral campaigns. 
  • Oversee and or perform data collection and reporting.
  • Align SEIU’s member-first electoral campaign imperatives with stakeholder’s operational campaign needs.
  • Align the MPO’s work with SEIU Michigan’s electoral goals. 
  • Execute SEIU Michigan’s electoral field program by leading the data support work of said program.
  • Liaise with the Michigan State Council to communicate policy priorities to candidates and stakeholders.
  • Focus on data management, organizing support, and internal training to promote SEIU’s interests.
  • Provide training support to SEIU Michigan Member Political Organizers, staff and leaders.
  • Liaise and work with political organizations in Michigan to drive and achieve SEIU Michigan’s electoral goals for 2026.
  • Support the executive director and field staff with overseeing the work of the day-to-day operations of SEIU Michigan’s field program.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal campaign finance laws.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience

  • At least two years experience in electoral politics, political communications, political or issue organizing.
  • Experience in working with and leveraging the strengths of stakeholders across racial, gender, ethnic and other socio-economic backgrounds to create a welcoming environment that engenders success for everyone.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, under pressure, in high stakes situations.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to travel regionally
  • Union experience preferred but not required.
  • Exceptional communication (verbal and written) and follow-up skills 
  • A team player who has a positive attitude and excels at collaboration and working cross-functionally.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound political judgement. 
  • Experience working with and understanding parties, other labor unions, and political organizations
  • Required high-level experience with the Voter Activation Network (VAN).
  • Basic knowledge of political finance laws.

Compliance and Operational Expectations

  • Term: May 2026 - November 2026
  • Compensation: This is an independent contractor role with a monthly salary range of $7,500.00 – $8,500, still pay will be commensurate with experience and negotiable
  • Travel/Expenses: Must arrange and pay for own travel, seeking reimbursement for preauthorized, reasonable, economy-rate expenses through the SEIU Michigan state council director. 
  • Confidentiality: Strictly maintain confidentiality of all SEIU information, especially the Member List, which must be deleted from personal files after the agreement concludes.
  • Work Product: All documents and work products created are the exclusive property of SEIU Michigan.
  • AI Usage: Must not record video meetings or use AI add-ons. Any project augmented by an AI tool must be indicated with a footnote or standard indication.
  • Reporting: Overall guidance and direction will be provided by Beth Byrd, SEIU Michigan Executive Director, who will also approve assignments and final work products.

The position is a full-time position that requires long and irregular hours, including some nights, weekends and holidays.
