Pratt Faculty Union
UFCT Local 1460
Staff Organizer
For covering Pratt’s Manhattan and Brooklyn, NY campuses
UFCT 1460 is the Pratt Faculty Union. We won our first collective bargaining agreement in 1973. Our union represents around 1,500 faculty including full-time Tenure Track and Tenured faculty and librarians, full-time non-Tenure Track faculty, adjuncts (to whom our CBA ensures job security), and visiting faculty (who are contingent). Pratt is a school of art, design, and architecture - so most faculty teach in those fields.
After over a decade of corruption and extremely low membership rates, our local began a rank-and-file insurgent campaign to reclaim our union. New union leadership, democratic structures, and supermajority membership speak to our ongoing grassroots transformation. Now, we need professional help to finally achieve full membership and win a transformative new contract.
Duties
- Coordinate with rank-and-file and elected leaders in our union
- Frequent in-person meetings around Pratt’s two campuses in Manhattan and Brooklyn – evening hours may be necessary on occasion
- Facilitate democratic rank-and-file governance by our diverse membership which is primarily composed of part-time workers
- Coalition work with our fellow campus unions (clerical, technicians, security, and facilities) and regional unions in our sector
- Manage membership data with spreadsheets and databases in collaboration with leaders and rank-and-file volunteers
Background
- One-on-one organizing conversation skills are required
- Strike experience is a huge asset
- Excellent time management is required, as well as fluency with google docs and zoom.
- At least one year of intensive experience helping to run a union. We highly encourage applications from workers who organized or served as representatives in their own unions and are now seeking their first union staff position
Pay
13-month contract position, August 1, 2026 to September 1, 2027
20 hours per week, 7 weeks of vacation, $50,000.
