Project Organizer
Based in Kansas
(with travel to Kansas City)
This full-time Project Organizer- based in Kansas but with travel to Kansas City.
AFT-Kansas is a statewide labor federation representing educators, higher education workers, healthcare workers, public employees, and local unions across Kansas. We are working to strengthen member voice, build local power, support bargaining and contract enforcement, and help workers organize around the issues that affect their workplaces and communities.
This position will focus on organizing, member engagement, leadership development, workplace issue tracking, grievance intake support, and local union support. The organizer will work with AFT-Kansas leadership, staff, and local union leaders to help locals become more active, more organized, and more effective
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Willing to work long and irregular hours
- Dedicated to social and economic justice, and workers rights
- Be in possession of an insured vehicle and valid driver’s license
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population
- Have strong communications skills
- Must be competent in basic computer/web functions, and social media platforms
- Be motivated, responsible, organized, professional and detail-oriented
- Be able to work independently while also being able to incorporate constructive feedback and direction from the campaign lead and campaign director.
- Experience working as a labor organizer preferred
- Experience in community, healthcare or labor organizing a plus
- Willingness to travel within Kansas and Kansas City, MO.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organize and mobilize workers
- Attend regular meetings with supervisors and team to discuss progress and plan activities
- One-on-one visits, site visits, meetings, and other interaction with members and potential members
- Phone, text and email communications
- Keep data up to date
- Train and support union activists
- Occasionally represent workers in meetings with their boss
- Occasionally, be assigned to other parts of the state or country as required
- Take direction on activities to grow membership and accomplish goals of the members and their campaign
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Salaried position with a starting rate of $46,000 – $50,000 depending on experience. Fully paid health benefits, and paid leave includes vacation, personal, and sick days; travel and expense reimbursements.
