Tri-State Area Field Representative
Based in the New York City, NY area
Local 161 is a Union of Motion Picture Script Supervisors, Production / Travel Coordinators, Production Accountants, Payroll Accountants, Script Coordinators, & Writers’ Room Assistants of nearly 1300 members in 25 states and the District of Columbia. Local 161 is under the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees (I.A.T.S.E.)
Applications are being accepted for the position of Field Representative. This position will be based in the New York City area and will include periodic travel to New England and the Mid-Atlantic regions.
Summary Statement:
This position requires travel, some evenings, and weekends. Job duties include contract administration and enforcement, membership advocacy, organizing, and other duties related to the goals of the Union. Regular set and office visits are required to address issues or safety concerns. The Field Representative will identify and help to resolve member-to-member issues, track projects, gather information and documentation for grievances.
Setting priorities, meeting deadlines, compiling, and analyzing data are critical skills for this position. Building and maintaining professional relationships with production management personnel, crews, and local area Union representatives is imperative. Attendance at staff and various leadership meetings is required, as necessary. This position reports directly to the Business Agents of Local 161.
Experience:
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in union work within the entertainment industry. Knowledge of IATSE’s local union leadership in the New York Tri-state area is strongly preferred.
Qualifications - The most qualified candidate needs the following:
- Excellent interpersonal and group communication skills.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills appropriate to working with a well-educated workforce; ability to articulate the Union’s message and vision to the membership.
- Proficiency in the use of computer software and databases including, but not limited to the following programs: Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Zoom, Slack
- Willingness to learn membership software platforms
- Self-motivation and adaptability, with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
- Ability to think strategically and exercise a high level of judgment.
- To be well informed on statewide political issues that may impact the entertainment industry.
- Flexibility to cooperate with IATSE employees and other IATSE Locals.
- A valid driver's license
Salary:
The current salary range is $72,000 – $82,000 based on qualifications and experience and includes a competitive and comprehensive benefits package (pension and health contributions made to IATSE plan). Specific employment terms and conditions are subject to collective bargaining, as this position is included in a CWA Local 1101 represented collective bargaining unit.
